UPOWA partners with Ultrapanel to deliver Zero Bills ready Ultra Home

  • UPOWA delivers fully integrated clean energy systems for Ultrapanel’s Ultra Home, demonstrating a Zero Bills ready, energy self-sufficient property.

  • The project showcases the seamless integration of solar PV, battery storage, and EV charging into offsite manufactured, high-performance homes.

  • Ultra Home serves as a blueprint for future-ready housing, combining modern methods of construction (MMC) with advanced clean technologies.

Showcasing future-ready sustainable housing

UPOWA has partnered with Ultrapanel to design and deliver the renewable energy systems for the Ultra Home Demonstration House, a pioneering project showing how offsite-manufactured, high-performance, technology-led homes can be delivered faster, smarter, and more sustainably.

Following Ultrapanel’s Live Build event, during which the superstructure of a two-bedroom home was erected in just a few hours, the Ultra Home combines Ultrapanel’s next-generation structurally insulated panel (SIP) system with advanced renewable technologies from leading partners in the built environment sector.

UPOWA provided a fully integrated clean-tech solution, including:

  • High-efficiency solar PV panels

  • Tesla Powerwall 3 battery storage

  • UPOWA ePro7 EV charger

These systems enable the home to generate as much energy as it consumes annually, meeting the Octopus Energy Zero Bills ready standard and demonstrating energy self-sufficient housing.

Delivering Zero Bills ready energy performance

Creating a fully integrated, Zero Bills ready home required overcoming a series of design and operational challenges. Limited roof space demanded a carefully optimised solar array using high-efficiency 430W solar panels, while the Tesla Powerwall 3 had to comply with PAS guidance without compromising visibility or accessibility for demonstration purposes.

The standing seam roof required pre-defined cable entry points, and an unexpected seam profile discovered on-site was quickly resolved through collaboration with the clamp manufacturer. Proactive problem-solving ensured the solar array, battery, and EV charger were installed on schedule and fully operational.

Tailored clean-tech strategy and design approach

UPOWA’s approach prioritised system efficiency, seamless integration, and replication potential for future developments. AutoCAD construction drawings optimised solar layout for maximum output with minimal roof footprint, and the electrical configuration mirrored standard new-build practices to simplify installation.

Multiple potential locations for the Powerwall 3 battery were assessed for compliance and demonstration clarity. The PV panels, battery, and EV charger were integrated into a single electrical ecosystem, supported by scaled drawings and technical documentation to ensure smooth installation alongside Ultrapanel’s team.

Seamless on-site installation and commissioning

UPOWA’s Roofing Installation Manager oversaw the solar array installation, while one of our Renewable Electrician’s verified cabling, loads, and clearances with the on-site electrician. Final commissioning confirmed the fully integrated system operates cohesively as a Zero Bills ready solution.

Future-ready homes powered by collaboration

Ultra Home now serves as a replicable blueprint for future-ready housing, demonstrating:

  • Fully integrated renewable energy systems: solar, battery, and EV charging

  • Compatibility of MMC with high-performance clean technologies

  • Benefits of early-stage clean-tech integration in new-build homes

UPOWA’s turnkey design-and-install delivery, specialist renewable engineering, and technical integration enabled Ultrapanel to showcase next-generation fabric-plus-tech homes, delivering sustainable, energy-efficient housing at scale.

The Ultra Home illustrates how precision engineering, innovative design, and clean-tech integration allow developers to meet growing housing demand while reducing carbon and energy costs.

We’re proud to partner with Ultrapanel on this exciting project to deliver a Zero Bills ready home that demonstrates what’s possible when renewable technologies are embedded from the design stage. From solar panels to battery storage and EV charging, our end-to-end solution shows how future-ready homes can be delivered efficiently, sustainably, and at scale.
