UK Government confirms rooftop solar mandate for new build homes by 2027

  • UK Government confirms rooftop solar panels will be mandatory on most new build homes by 2027 under the Future Homes Standard

  • UPOWA ready to support housebuilders with compliant, cost-effective solar delivery at pace and scale

  • Builds on UPOWA’s 15+ years of solar expertise and strong partnerships with leading developers to future-proof UK housing

The UK Government has officially confirmed that rooftop solar panels will be required on almost all new build homes in England by 2027 under revised Building Regulations and the Future Homes Standard.

The new regulation forms a key part of the updated Future Homes Standard, designed to improve energy efficiency, reduce household carbon emissions, and accelerate the transition to net zero. This is a policy milestone positions solar PV as a standard requirement — not a sustainability ‘extra’. From 2027, housebuilders must integrate solar technology into the majority of new homes to meet regulatory, planning, and consumer expectations.
