Project Overview

Thakeham partnered with housing association Stonewater to design and build a 100% affordable and sustainable housing development at Cooper Close in the village of Smallfield in Surrey.

The Cooper Close scheme provides 51 x much-needed affordable, energy-efficient homes, with 26 x homes available for affordable rent (a mixture of 1 and 2-bed flats as well as 2 and 3-bed houses) and 25 x are shared ownership homes (2, 3 and 4-bed houses).

Thakeham tasked UPOWA with developing an aesthetic roof-integrated solar solution for the mix of houses and apartments to meet the development’s sustainability targets within specification.

The UPOWA Solution

We value engineered a roof-integrated solar scheme to achieve the scheme’s carbon reduction targets and aesthetic needs, while optimising the best performing roofs as requested by the team at Thakeham Group.

Our fully-accredited solar installation team went on to fit UPOWA Inline Solar systems on 12 x of the houses and 1 x apartment block. In total, we installed 148 x UPOWA Inline Solar panels.

The UPOWA roof-integrated solar panels integrated seamlessly with the roof and house design. They are now helping to power these affordable properties with sustainable energy, reducing energy bills and carbon emissions for residents.

Following completion at Smallfield, UPOWA is now working in partnership with Thakeham Group to support the design and installation of solar PV, battery storage and EV charging technologies for several exciting low-carbon and zero-carbon housing schemes.

By selecting UPOWA as our product and service provider of solar, battery and EV charging solutions, we have a trusted expert on board to help deliver zero-carbon homes.
