Project Overview

Thakeham Group partnered with housing association Clarion Housing to design and construct 125 x affordable and energy-efficient new homes at Graham Avenue in Portslade, East Sussex.

The new scheme will help to tackle the housing needs for the local area by delivering 28 x homes for affordable rent and 97 x for shared ownership.

Thakeham tasked UPOWA with providing a cost-effective roof-integrated solar solution to meet the development’s 19% carbon reduction target, all within budget and construction specification.

The UPOWA Solution

We designed a roof-integrated solar scheme to meet the specific carbon reduction requirements while optimising the best-orientated roofs on the Graham Avenue scheme.

Our fully-accredited solar installation team fitted UPOWA Inline Solar systems on 33 x of the affordable houses. In total, we installed 212 x UPOWA Inline Solar panels.

The UPOWA roof-integrated solar panels are now playing a vital role in helping to power these affordable and low-carbon homes with sustainable energy, delivering savings on energy costs and carbon emissions for residents.

Following completion at Graham Avenue, UPOWA is now working in partnership with Thakeham Group to support the design and installation of solar PV, battery storage and EV charging technologies for several exciting low-carbon and zero-carbon housing schemes.
